Petroleum developments in north Africa in 1967

The major oil discoveries in north Africa during 1967 were in the Sirte basin of Libya; the three new wells there may yield up to one million barrels per day. A significant discovery was made in the Algerian central Sahara, and the first discovery of gas in the Nile delta is reported. Average production in north Africa was 2,731,000 barrels per day, an increase of 15.4 percent over the previous year; exploration increased 27.3 percent over 1966.
